The Nature Legacy Fund was a four-year project 2019-2023 carried out by the Department of Aquatic Resources and Fisheries Management within The Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq. Project work was divided into three regions: Stewiacke, St. Croix, and Southern Gulf of St. Lawrence.
The project focused on culturally significant aquatic species at risk, steered by the concept up of Netukulimk and guided by principles of Etuaptmumk (Two Eyed Seeing). Project work being done is to help aid assessed habitat quality important in the recovery of species at risk, and increased awareness through citizen science opportunities within member communities.
COMMUNITY BINS
The Nature Legacy team visited six communities to discuss our work and present some of the equipment we use in the field. These bins were left in these communities to be used by those interested in aquatic species and habitats!
